What is HIFU skin tightening?
A high intensity focused ultrasound facial, or HIFU facial for short, is a non-invasive treatment for facial ageing to help tighten the skin in line with the bodies own collagen production. This procedure is part of a growing trend for anti-aging treatments that provide some of the benefits of a facelift without the need for surgery.
A HIFU facial uses ultrasound to create heat at a deep level in the skin. This heat damages targeted skin cells, causing the body to try to repair them. To do this, the body produces collagen to aid in cell regrowth. Collagen is a substance in the skin that gives it structure and elasticity.
Benefits of HIFU Skin Tightening:
- Tighten the skin on the neck
- Reduce the appearance of jowls
- Lift drooping eyelids or eyebrows
- Smooth wrinkles on the face
- Smooth and tighten chest skin
How does HIFU skin tightening work?
The type of ultrasound that this procedure uses is different than the ultrasound that doctors use for medical imaging. HIFU uses high energy waves to target specific areas of the body.
HIFU works on the SMAS layer deep below the skin, which is the area surgeons tighten for face and neck lifts. Rather than surgery, the ultrasound technology is used to radiate energy to the SMAS layer to tighten, lift and plump the skin.
Treatment duration is approximately 30 – 60 depending on the area being treated.
When will I see results?
Some clients may see immediate initial improvements, however, the optimal time when clients will see lifting, tightening and firming is two- three months after treatment with gradual improvements noticed once the skin has had time to repair and produce new collagen and elastin which holds the structure of the skin. During this period, older collagen is replaced and the building process continues and clients may even see improvements for up to six months after the final procedure.
How many treatments are required?
Clients typically require between one and three sessions, depending on the results they want to achieve. Treatments should be spaced out by approximately 4 weeks.
How long do results last and how often should I have the treatment?
Results last up to 2 years, results vary from patient to patient, dependent on the condition of their skin and lifestyle factors. These include age, genetics, exercise, sun exposure, medical history and lifestyle choices.
What is the downtime of the treatment?
The HIFU treatment is non-invasive meaning there is virtually no downtime. You may experience minor swelling and some redness and a mild tingling or tenderness. These are superficial and are temporary. You will therefore be able to return to normal activities straight after and there is no recovery measures required.
Who cannot be treated?
Patients with open wounds or lesions on the face and/or neck. Those with severe or cystic acne on the face and/or neck. Patients with pacemakers and electronic device implants in the area to be treated. Those with a high number of dental implants.
