How does semaglutide medication work?
Semaglutide works by mimicking the actions of your own natural hormones (GLP 1) which regulate appetite and how much you eat. It helps to make you feel fuller, for longer so you don’t eat as much or get strong cravings.
The drug is approved in the UK to help you lose weight when used in a conjunction with an active lifestyle and a balanced diet. Exercise and diet are an important part of looking and feeling good. Ozempic may help you further maximise results.
Who can semaglutide be prescribed to?
During your consultation, we will ask questions about your medical history, weight goals and history with weight loss before prescribing the medication and to ensure that Ozempic / Wegovy is the right choice for you.
Semaglutide medication comes in the form of an injection pen filled with medication and has four needles. The initial treatment pen has 0.25mg per dose each week for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks the dose will increase to 0.5mg per week. The dose will then increase to a maintenance dose of 1mg per week. This gradual increase of dosage is the best way to help you adjust to the medication and avoid any potential side effects.
